JURBARKAS HOSTS THE VISITORS

During August 30-31, 2013 delegation from Kaliningrad was visiting Lithuanian city Jurbarkas. The visit was arranged under International Project ‘Development of Tourist-Recreational Infrastructure on the basis of Restoration and Preservation of Historical-Cultural Heritage of the Urban Parks’ which is running under the Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI CBC Programme 2007-2013 and is implemented jointly by Administration of Jurbarkas District Municipality (Lithuania) and Administration of Neman District Municipality (Russia) with financial support of the European Union.

The visit involved participation in the Conference ‘Use of Recreation Areas and Cultural Heritage Objects for Public Needs’ and in the City Festival ‘Following S.Vasilčikov Mansion Traditions of the 19th century.’
Among the members of the delegation were the responsible officials from the Kaliningrad City Administration, from the involved Municipal institutions and agencies, and scientists representing leading Kaliningrad Higher Education Institutions.  
The Conference ‘Use of Recreation Areas and Cultural Heritage Objects for Public Needs’ was intended to share the experience in the targeted field of concern and to discuss problems and prospects of the ways to manage objects of cultural heritage and recreation areas in the cities. Chief architect of Jurbarkas presented the effects of the ongoing reconstruction of leisure and recreation sites and their use for the needs of people. Also Lithuanian partners shared their experience in restoration of objects representing historical and cultural heritage, following from local public initiatives. Kaliningrad participants told about their experience in the effective use of landscape and architectural assets giving the example of the City Museum ‘Friedland Gate’. They also showed some Kaliningrad parks representing objects of cultural and historical heritage.
Also members of the Kaliningrad delegation became the guests of honour at the City Festival ‘Following S.Vasilčikov Mansion Traditions of the 19th century.’ The Festival was taking the grounds in the S.Vasilčikov Mansion Park awaiting its restoration under the project, and was offering a wide-ranging programme including agricultural and handicraft fair, equestrian competitions and performance of folk music groups. Russian Folk Song Group from Kaliningrad ‘Razdolye’ took part in the concert. Their performance was given a very warm welcome by Jurbarkas citizens.
