EUROPEAN COOPERATION RUN ATTRACTS 106 RUNNERS TO NIDA

The Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 took an active part in the record-breaking Nida Half Marathon Run on the 27th of September 2014. This was a part of European Cooperation Day celebration, taking place all over Europe.

The distance of 5,4 kilometres was named the European Cooperation Run. 106 runners from Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Latvia decided to compete in this distance. In total, 480 enthusiasts of healthy lifestyle took part in the 15th Nida Half Marathon. This number of participants is the new record of the traditional semi-marathon.

The programme representatives accepted challenge
 
Regimantas Tarasevičius from Kaunas (time: 18 minutes and 45 seconds) and Rasa Batulevičiūtė from Vilnius (time: 22 minutes and 5 seconds) became the champions of the European Cooperation Run. Dmitry Pastushenkov from Kaliningrad (Russia) and Viltė Beržinskaitė from Klaipėda won the 2nd place and Rolandas Jakštas from Kaišiadorys and Kamilė Valatkaitė from Vilnius ended the distance in the 3rd position.
 
The Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme also had its representatives in the European Cooperation Run. Justyna Klonowska from Joint Technical Secretariat (hereinafter – JTS) Branch Office in Olsztyn (Poland) was the 63rd, Vaidas Jokubaitis and Sigita Baronaitė from JTS Branch Office in Vilnius (Lithuania) shared the 78th-79th result, Giedrius Surplys from JTS Branch Office in Vilnius ended the distance in the 82nd position, and Jurgita Mačiūnaitė from the Joint Technical Secretariat finished in the 88th position.
 
The winners of the semi-marathon distance (21,098 kilometres) set the new records of the Nida semi-marathon track. Vaidas Dopolskas from Vilnius set the time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 51 seconds and the European marathon star Živilė Balčiūnaitė from Vilnius finished the distance in 1 hour 16 minutes and 37 seconds.
 
The persevering representative of the Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme, Paweł Natkaniec from the Joint Technical Secretariat, ended Nida semi-marathon in the 132nd position (out of 242 runners) with the time 1 hour, 46 minutes and 8 seconds.
 
Attractive presentation of European Cooperation results
 
The achievements of the Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme were advertised in the European Cooperation Day tent. People could play the darts (activity was organised by the project LPR1/010/050 "The towns of Kętrzyn and Svetly as Cross-border Physical Culture Centres thanks to the development of the public services connected with the integration of the sensitive Groups with the help of active cross-border cooperation"). The project LPR1/010/186 “Joint actions for solving of joint youth problems” showed the skateboard performance.
 
Presentation of the results of the Programme was constantly shown to the participants and spectators of the Nida Half Marathon Run. The project LPR1/010/001 “Lagoons as crossroads for tourism and interactions of peoples of South-East Baltic: from the history to present (CROSSROADS 2.0)” invited everyone to the ethnographic fisherman’s house in Nida, where people could visit the museum, try the ancient crafts of Nida, ground coffee and taste waffles baked on an open fire.
 
The popular Lithuanian internet news portals elta.lt, 15min.lt and vz.lt covered the European Cooperation Run in their articles and the photo of the Finish tape with the flag of the European Union and the logo of the Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme appeared in many sources of media.
