SERIES OF SEMINARS "HOW TO SAVE WATER" AT THE END OF THE PROJECT FROM OLECKO

Three expert seminars titled "How to save water" have been planned for the last stage of the project "Partnership for the protection of waters of the cross-border area of Lithuania, Poland and Russia" No.  LPR1/010/106. The first one took place lately in Olecko and was hosted by the Mayor of Olecko - Wacław Olszewski. The project is implemented by Olecko Commune (Poland), Administration of Kazlu Ruda Municipality (Lithuania) and Administration of Gusev District Municipality (Russia).


The meeting was attended by representatives of supporting governments, including the host Wacław Olszewski - Mayor of Olecko (Poland), ViceMer of Kazlu Ruda (Lithuania) -  Ramut Vinikiene, delegation from  Gusiev Region (Russia) and from non-governmental organizations, representatives of schools, institutions involved in water resources management and experts from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. During the seminar, participants had an opportunity to see works made by pupils from the Primary School No. 1 in Olecko, award winners of an environmental contest "How to save water".

The aim of the seminar was to identify the main challenges of saving water in the countries of project’s partners and identify challenges in achieving good water status in terms of quality, quantity and its use in all river basins, as well as an indication of the next steps in the field of water quality related to efficient management of water resources.

During the meeting was presented the scope of the investments made in the Olecko Commune and Kazlu Ruda and the progress in the preparation of project documentation in Gusiev. Experts of the project outlined and presented the results of cooperation for the realization of planned activities related to the implementation of the project.

At the end, the expert from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn  presented the principles and trends in sustainable water management, including:
• reduction of excessive water consumption and emission from wastewater treatment,
• principles of rational urbanization, in particular the principles of rational water and wastewater management,
• strengthening of international cooperation, especially with neighboring countries in the field of conservation and sustainable use of water resources.
