The town of Taurage in Lithuania celebrated its City Festival on the 30th of May 2015. As part of the agenda of the festival, the closing conference of the project “Creation of Tourist Route from the Tilsit Peace Treaty of 1807 to Tauroggen Convention of 1812” was held. The mayor of Taurage District, Mr. Sigitas Miciulis, greeted the participants of the event coming from Lithuania, Russia, Poland and Germany. He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Taurage had become nicer thanks to the project and with smooth private-public cooperation.

During the implementation period of the project, the fundament of the Monument, commemorating the Tauroggen Convention, was built in Staigine village. The monument itself was erected using the funds of the Taurage “Rotary” Club. A bicycle path was laid from the centre of Taurage to Staigine village. Pedestrian and bicycle bridges were built over the rivers of Jura and Ezeruona. A parking lot was constructed by the Tauroggen Convention Monument.

During the closing conference, the project achievements in Taurage and Sovetsk (ex Tilsit) towns were presented. The Russian partner of Taurage District Municipality Administration – Administration of Sovetsk City District – has decorated the town by building a “Napoleon’s Lime Tree” memorial, renovating the town park and restoring a monument to Queen Luise of Prussia. S stand of historic Tilsit, consisting of 300 houses will soon be opened at the entrance to the town park.

2,6 million of Euro of the European Union co-financing has been allocated to the project under the Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.
