LIBRARIES OF MARIJAMPOLE AND CHERNYAKHOVSK WILL BE RENOVATED

Marijampole Petras Kriauciunas Public Library from Lithuania and its partner from the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation Chernyakhovsk municipal institution “Centralized Library System” will receive grant amount of 232 093.47 Euro for activities connected with the improvement of public library system in Lithuania and Russia following the conditions of the Grant contract recently signed by the JMA of the ENPI CBC Lithuania-Poland-Russia Programme. Total budget of the project is 257 881.64 Euro. Project “Cooperation in building up a library for family” contributes to the Measure 2.2 – development of human potential by improvement of social conditions and will be implemented in 18 months.

The overall objective of the project is to improve of family educational, informational and cultural environment, contributing to cross-border social and economic development. Specific objectives of the project include renovating premises of public libraries in Marijampole (Lithuania) and Chernyakhovsk (Russia), preparation of informational, educational and cultural base; and creation of new services for library goers, expansion of partnership and cooperation of public libraries by realizing new concept “A library for Family”.

Main activities which will be implemented under the project are as follows:

1. Reconstruction of premises Marijampole Petras Kriauciunas Public Library Branch (289 m2 ) (Lithuania) with the general aim to adapt them to the needs of families, including purchase of equipment and furniture.

2. Establishment of the Family Centre in Chernyakhovsk library (Russia) and renovation of the Readers’ Service Department (226,9 m2), including equipment and furnishing of the library.

3. Creation of informational, educational and cultural base in two libraries – establishing meeting place for families and family members interested in specific topics, which includes reading club, designing of websites, creation and implementation of educational programs. The functional zones in both renovated libraries will be established, which includes Media Library containing books, music, games and films.

4. Introduction of new forms of work and presentation to the public – organization of events such as Reading families’ club meetings and travelling displays of artworks, lessons of educational program, conferences and publications.

5. Development of libraries’ partnership and cooperation network by realizing “Library for family” concept.

The project has direct impact on families taking care of the disabled and the elderly, single-parent families, socially supported families, young families and other families of two partner regions while its indirect impact has wider audience – all library users of two regions who will make use of the qualitative library services even after the project finalization.
